Vision Statement: To provide organizations with the tools, training, and knowledge of equitable practices to assist marginalized and disenfranchised families to exit poverty while eradicating racism and systemic barriers that thwart people of color oppressed from attaining financial stability, higher education, access to adequate healthy options, while creating generational wealth.
The disparity is tremendous, and while we know that COVID-19 has shed a vivid light on the disparities and inequities that people of color experience in their everyday lives. But even before COVID-19,
Dr. Grim saw the disinvestment and disenfranchisement in the places she knows as home. It was a beautiful day in Charleston, SC, and as usual, Deidre was advocating for “equal” treatment for her clients. The issue was her residents downtown wanted a new television in their clubhouse. And Dr. Grim agreed because they would utilize it more than residents in other communities. After all, they are seniors who are very communal.
When she approached the leadership of the organization, they explained that these residents did not need one. Deidre argued that her residents in a more affluent area had one, and they didn’t use it. Deidre was advised that she would not change anything, and if she had a problem with it, she should return to school. At that point, she was not infuriated that her residents were not even being treated equally. And while Civil Rights, Equality, and Equity run deep in her roots, her passion for fighting for the underdog was born!
WE DO THIS…because racism, bigotry, and systemic oppression have plagued our world for too long.
WE DO THIS…because the next generation deserves an equitable playing field and a world that does not place stereotypes and stigmas on them.
WE DO THIS…because equitable treatment is a public health crisis that MUST be addressed to ensure a safe space for the next generations.
WE DO THIS…because we are tired of how people of color continue to die at disproportionate rates due to preventable illnesses and assumptions.
WE DO THIS…because we are thoroughly tired of some being treated like second-class citizens and envision a world where all people can work together to promote differences because that is what makes us an extraordinary world.
